This 100% Syrah comes from old vines planted just outside of the Cornas appellation. Technically it is a Cotes du Rhône, but because the wine is so much more significant than your normal Cotes du Rhône made from Syrah in the Northern Rhône, Guillaume Gilles decided to label it under the generic moniker of “Vin de France.” This is a pretty common thing – especially with folks like this who are trying to prove a point. That point being that Cotes du Rhône as an appellation is not worthy of a wine like this. This drinks like a baby Cornas. Perfect with burgers, it is dark fruited, not too structured, feral, mineral, powerful but yet effortless. We like to drink Syrah with a chill on it, and suggest you serve this just above cellar temperature. Cellar temp is 55 degrees – serve at 60 - 62 degree Fahrenheit.
