What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a co-owner and mental health therapist at Stableway Counseling Services in Lake Zurich and McHenry, Illinois. We work with clients of all ages who come to therapy in pursuit of help for a wide variety of reasons. We currently have 13 practicing clinicians in our practice, and each clinician has their own unique therapeutic style, specialties, and skills. At Stableway, we believe in providing top-quality mental health care to our community. We believe in providing thoughtful, effective, and individualized care to our clients.
I have the incredible opportunity to work alongside two of my closest friends, who have been essential on my journey. The co-owners at Stableway all began their professions working with Screening and Support Services in McHenry County. We worked with individuals and the family unit to develop adequate, predictable, and reliable support in response to the mental health crisis. I believe that our specialties and extensive crisis backgrounds set us apart from other agencies.
Tell us about yourself
I began my professional journey as an intern working with children affected by domestic violence. I grew my experience in various mental health settings, including a residential home for youth, a local center for individuals with developmental disabilities, a community mental health outpatient therapy program, and a mental health community crisis team. I currently am focusing my work as a mental health outpatient therapist working with women's wellness, perinatal mental health, adolescent therapy, and couple's counseling.
I am a keeper of stories, heartaches, and the most beautiful hopes. I feel honored when a client lets me know their deepest vulnerabilities. I see that as a privilege and strive to do everything I can to help my clients thrive and live their lives with hope, purpose, and direction. I love what I do and am passionate about empowering others and providing opportunities for growth and vulnerability.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
These past six years have been absolutely astounding to me. What started as a fun idea between friends became a thriving 2 location business! I am proud of the fact that we are three young women who put a ton of effort into our education, experiences, and continued learnings to develop this successful private practice!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
As a business owner, there is always something to do or a fire to put out. Juggling all of these things can be extremely overwhelming. Luckily, there are three of us owners who are ready and willing to jump in when necessary. We are good at working together to tackle business hiccups, delegate when necessary, and split the workload.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Identify, gather and lean on your support systems.
- Get involved in the community where your business is located.
- Utilize social media to connect, communicate and collaborate.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Mental health matters. I see a future where mental health therapy is not looked down on as something you do when you are ‘sick’ but rather encouraged and universally accepted as a way to improve lives. My hope is that the mental health industry experiences a flood over the next 5-10 years.
