IT’S TIME TO CLEAN OUT YOUR MEDICINE CABINET!

The drug overdose epidemic in the United States is a clear and present public health, public safety, and national security threat. DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects DEA’s commitment to Americans’ safety and health, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.

The Cape Coral Police Department is sponsoring a drive-through medication take back event on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 1100 Cultural Park Boulevard in Cape Coral. At that event, unused prescription and over the counter pills, liquids, and patches can be handed in anonymously. Sharps and needles cannot be accepted. All collected material is incinerated.

Cape Coral Police Chief Anthony Sizemore said, “We are pleased to support the DEA Take Back in Cape Coral; our citizens' safety is always our agency's first and foremost priority. This initiative will help us focus on removing potentially potent controlled substances from our community’s medicine cabinets, and to help keep these substances out of the wrong hands.”

The DEA Take Back is sponsored by the Cape Coral Police Department, the United Way of Lee, Hendry and Glades Counties, Park Royal Behavioral Health, Central Florida Behavioral Health Network and Drug Free Lee’s Operation Medicine Cabinet.
